‘The Walking Dead’ Spoilers: Will Robert Kirkman’s Ending Have a Zombie Cure, or Kill all the Main Characters?

Season 5 of “The Walking Dead” kicks off in October and Entertainment Weekly sat down with executive producer – and Walking Dead comic book creator – Robert Kirkman to see if he knew how and when the series would end.

Kirkman explained that the TV series could last a really long time because there’s so much material it could pull from the comics. He just released comic book issue #130, while the show is still on issue #60-something.

“Luckily, because of the comic series, this isn’t a show where we’re going to run out of ideas,” Kirkman said. “This isn’t a show where it’s going to be, like, ‘Well, they’re clearly spinning their wheels just to keep the show going.’ It’s much more a matter of: Are we going to have enough seasons to get enough of the comic books into the show? I think that’s more the struggle for us. That’s what we’re hoping to find out in the next few years.”

As far as the comic book’s ending, Kirkman said he knows exactly how he wants to wrap up the zombie apocalypse. Will all the main characters be killed? Will there finally be a cure for the outbreak? Maybe the characters will learn how to live in a world with zombies, and it will a happily-ever-after type of feel?

Of course, Kirkman didn’t divulge any details but told EW that he came up with the idea about two years ago.

“I do know what I’m building towards, yes,” Kirkman said, referring to the comics. “I don’t know exactly what issue that’s going to fall on, per se, and I do have a lot of road laid out before that that is going to take a long time, but I certainly know exactly what I’m building to.”

He even said he has an idea of how the very last page of the comic would play out.

“From the very beginning I would always plot these big, long overreaching stories,” he said. “So it’d be like, oh, they’re going to get to the prison, then this is going to happen and then that’s going to happen and that’s going to happen. I wouldn’t really map out how many issues those were going to take, but I would always make sure that I had somewhere between two and ten years of story mapped out ahead of me.”

“About a year or two ago, I finally nailed it down exactly what I want the ending to be,” Kirkman added. “So now I’ve kind of got two trails of story going in my head. One working to where I’m at very far into the future, and one working from the end backwards. When these two stories meet, then I’ll know exactly how long the story is. I’m rapidly approaching that point.”

Season 5 of “The Walking Dead” premieres Sunday, Oct. 12 on AMC.

Robert Kirkman Knows How ‘The Walking Dead’ Will End

Robert Kirkman has long described “The Walking Dead” as a zombie movie that never ends. Now, he’s changing his tune.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kirkman, the executive producer of the “Walking Dead” TV series and writer of the “Walking Dead” comic books, says he’s finally arrived at an idea for how to end the post-apocalypse thriller. Now, the question isn’t about how “Walking Dead” ends — it’s about when.

“I do know what I’m building toward, yes,” said Kirkman, referring to how the comics will end. “I don’t know exactly what issue that’s going to fall on, per se, and I do have a lot of road laid out before that that is going to take a long time, but I certainly know exactly what I’m building to.”

Kirkman even knows the final page of the “Walking Dead” comic series, and he says that the idea came to him about a year or two ago.

“From the very beginning I would always plot these big, long overarching stories,” he said. “So it’d be like, oh, they’re going to get to the prison, then this is going to happen and then that’s going to happen and that’s going to happen. I wouldn’t really map out how many issues those were going to take, but I would always make sure that I had somewhere between two and ten years of story mapped out ahead of me.

“About a year or two ago, I finally nailed down exactly what I want the ending to be,” he continued. “So now I’ve kind of got two trails of story going in my head. One working to where I’m at very far into the future, and one working from the end backwards. When those two stories meet, then I’ll know exactly how long the story is. I’m rapidly approaching that point.”

Recently, the “Walking Dead” comics have made some big changes in the lives of Rick Grimes and his companions. (SPOILER ALERT, if you’re behind.) After the “All Out War” story arc, “Walking Dead” experienced a time-jump, lurching forward a few years in the future to see Rick as the leader of a flourishing, organized society, with his arch-enemy Negan languishing in prison. Could we see another time-jump before “Walking Dead” ends, or was the time-jump the first silo in the final act of the zombie drama? We’ll find out someday — maybe not someday soon, but someday.

For now, the “Walking Dead” TV show certainly isn’t ending anytime soon; season five premieres on October 12.

The Walking Dead Season 5, 7 New Photos Released

The Walking Dead Season 5 Daryl Dixon

AMC has been releasing new photos for The Walking Dead Season 5 across various websites, and we’ve complied them together all in one place for easy viewing. The first photo comes via Entertainment Weekly, and it features Daryl Dixon peering through plastic (maybe the type you find hanging down in a slaughter house). Dixon has his crossbow drawn, so he looks like he is expecting trouble.

The second photo comes via IGN, and it features Tyreese and Sasha, who appear to be on the lookout for trouble. Tyreese has a pair of binoculars and Sasha has a rifle in hand. At least, they have been reunited, which is a good sign.

It looks like Michonne will have a lot to deal with in the next season of The Walking Dead, which will cause her to show some massive intensity.

Will There Be Cannibals At Terminus In Season 5?

On Sunday, Entertainment Weekly posted an interview with Danai Gurira who plays Michonne on the series. Her character will apparently struggle on the inside while having to worry about moving into different paths.

“She does yearn for something more stable in life,” the actress said. “She really believes that Carl needs something more stable than where they are and what they have been experiencing, but also she’s very committed to what has to be done. She’s a woman who does what has to be done, so that involves a lot of ferocity.”

Will The Zombies Be Worse Than All The Others Before In Season 5 Of ‘The Walking Dead?’

This sparks up some questions on how far Michonne will go to do the right thing. Odds are likely it’ll involve violence and bloodshed since that’s one of the biggest trademarks of the series. But this could also involve heartbreak and tragedy; either way, Michonne is going to have to stay strong.

“It is a very interesting arc that she is on in terms of how is that going to show itself,” Gurira said. “Is she trying to move away from how much of a warrior she is? But will the world allow that?”

Only time will tell at this point what Michonne’s next battle will be and how that will affect the aspect of the series.

The Walking Dead Season 5 is set to premiere on Sunday, October 12 on AMC.
