The Walking Dead’s Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) is currently packing heat on the October 2014 cover of Men’s Fitness. Life is good.
But, when you think about it, it is kind of weird that the guy holding signs for Keira Knightley in Love, Actually is now a 40-year-old action hero. Andy isn’t just a badass leading man on AMC’s No. 1 ratings darling, though — he’s also become a heartthrob and a sex symbol. Part of that has to be tied to the physical transformation of his character, Rick Grimes, from the pale, clean-shaven sheriff’s deputy of Season 1 to the bearded man who bites people’s necks off in late Season 4/early Season 5.
Andy told Men’s Fitness he hired a trainer for the first time last season, to help him bulk up. He said he’s usually more of a runner than a gym guy, but his trainer made him stop the distance running and add free weights to build some mass. Andy also said he (shudder) cut carbs and sugar out of his diet, even though it wasn’t easy or fun. “Why would you want to do that to yourself, man?” he asked. Good question.
