The Walking Dead Tease Male Gay Character As Daryl Dixon’s Sexuality Is Thrown Into Question

The Walking Dead have provided plenty of shocks over the last four seasons but viewers could be in for the biggest shocker yet with producers announcing that they’ll be introducing a brand new male gay character in the upcoming episodes – while discussing popular character Daryl Dixon and his lack of sexual conquests. Is it him?

Fans are excitedly gearing up for the season five premiere of AMC’s hit zombie series on October 12 and hope is high that the new batch of episodes will finally see Daryl hook up with Beth whom he has been linked to since season four. But it sounds as though producers have other plans, bringing into question Daryl’s sexuality…

Executive producer and showrunner Scott Gimple has warned viewers that Daryl’s sexuality “is not really addressed” in season five, while insisting to TV Line that they’re not saving the storyline “as any sort of big reveal.”

He continued: “The fact that there’s still a question as to what Daryl’s orientation is in season five absolutely speaks to Daryl’s character; he is a very guarded, very closed-off individual in a lot of ways. We have been able to see him ever so slowly open up and show the other characters aspect by aspect as to what makes him tick.”

The creator of the Walking Dead comic book Robert Kirkman also cast doubt over Daryl’s sexual orientation recently when he told “All I can say is that it’s been discussed. We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing…we’ll tackle it in the show.”

It is a bit strange that we haven’t seen Daryl enjoy a romance with another member of the group… is there more to this than we know? (AMC)

Don’t worry ladies, there’s still hope! Season four left off with Rick and co. trapped in a box by a group of potential cannibals at Terminus which they thought was a safe-haven, and as expected, Steven Yeun who plays Glen, has teased that the opening scenes will be explosive. He told E! News: “I remember a couple of scenes I would look over at what was going on in the scene and I would be like, ‘What the eff? What are we doing? How is this legal?’ It’s grounded and real, too; it’s not like torture or gore for no reason.”

He added: “It’s literally, that is what would happen and we are trying to show it. It would not work on network television, let me tell you that.”
