The Walking Dead: 5 thrilling teasers for season 5
Speaking to the stars of the zombie smash hit, we gleaned five tantalising teasers for season five – so feast on this while you’re waiting for all-new episodes.
1. The new episodes pick up right where season four left off
Last season’s finale ‘A‘ climaxed with our survivors held hostage by the residents of Terminus, with Rick swearing bloody vengeance.
“We heard Rick make that declaration,” says executive producer Gale Ann Hurd. “Now we’re going to find out just how badly the Terminans are going to pay… and I think that’s going to be a lot of fun!”
2. Season five’s opener is all about one thing – action
“It’s more zombies, more fighting and at a faster pace,” promises Emily Kinney, who plays Beth. “Last season, we had episodes where we really dived into the characters. This year, we just start with a ton of action.”
Leading the charge is Rick – “a man who’s not in conflict anymore”, according to his alter ego Andrew Lincoln. “It’s been great this season,” reveals the Brit. “I can’t say much, but I open up a can of whup-ass in the first few episodes!”
3. The new Walking Dead will push the show in new and exciting directions
“You have this group of assassins who’ve survived for a year-and-a-half, so you have to put them in situations that they can’t be prepared for,” muses exec and make-up maestro Greg Nicotero.
“The writers have done a really good job this season of putting our characters in environments with the walkers that we haven’t seen before. There’s several episodes in season five where we’re pushing things further than we’ve ever done. It’s tremendously exciting.”
4. Don’t expect ‘Richonne’ to happen anytime soon
Bad news for fans of the Rick and Michonne pairing – actress Danai Gurira doesn’t see them getting together any time soon. “I think there is definitely a trust and respect and friendship,” she says. “They understand each other, they get each other’s minds and motives.
“She wanted a family – now she has one. But the idea of [a romantic] component… I don’t know if it’s crucial to her. What’s crucial to her is having people to invest in again.”
5. But there might still be hope for Daryl and Beth
Norman Reedus’s bad-ass archer was cruelly torn apart from Beth last season, but might a reunion – and romance – be on the cards? “Something special’s happening and they don’t know what it is yet,” Emily Kinney suggests.
“I’m sure many of us have had those kinds of relationships – is this something or does he just care about her in a brotherly way? That’s what so brilliant about it – you can’t put your finger on it.”
